The Dallas Mavericks and coach Rick Carlisle reached agreement on a contract extension, according to a report Thursday.
A new five-year deal worth approximately $35 million will elevate Carlisle to the highest-paid coach who is not also an executive in the NBA, ESPN reported.
The contract reportedly will go into effect for the 2017-18 season. It’s believed that Carlisle is in the final year of his current contract.
The 56-year-old Carlisle is the winningest coach in franchise history after passing Don Nelson earlier this season. Carlisle has one NBA title to his credit as a coach with the Mavericks in 2011.
Carlisle previously was the head coach of the Detroit Pistons and the Indiana Pacers.
Only two other current NBA coaches — Miami’s Erik Spoelstra and San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich — have been with the same team as long as Carlisle.
