The Los Angeles Lakers will interview Tyronn Lue for a second time Wednesday about their coaching vacancy, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.
The report said Lue will sit down with team co-owner Jeanie Buss for the first time and with general manager Rob Pelinka for the second time. Lue and Pelinka met last Friday.
Lue, who turns 42 on May 3, compiled a 128-83 record and won the 2016 NBA championship as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was fired this season after an 0-6 start.
Lue is not the only candidate linked to the job formerly held by Luke Walton, who parted ways with Los Angeles earlier this month and became head coach of the Sacramento Kings.
Sources told ESPN that former Brooklyn and Milwaukee coach Jason Kidd interviewed with Pelinka and team executive Kurt Rambis on Monday.
The 46-year-old former NBA point guard compiled a 183-190 record in four-plus seasons coaching the Bucks (2014-18) and Nets (2013-14).
The Lakers were also reportedly scheduled to meet with Miami Heat assistant coach Juwan Howard on Tuesday. They are also planning a second meeting with Philadelphia 76ers assistant Monty Williams, the former head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, according to the Times. ESPN reported Monday the Phoenix Suns are targeting Williams for their opening.
Lue already has a relationship with Lakers star LeBron James from their time together in Cleveland. Kidd and James were Olympic teammates in 2008, when Team USA won a gold medal in Beijing.
Los Angeles finished a disappointing 37-45 in 2018-19, its first season with James on the roster, and has not made the playoffs since the 2012-13 season.
