ArizonaCardinalsLogoArizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians was released from a San Diego hospital on Wednesday morning after he experienced stomach pain during the team’s practice with the Chargers on Tuesday night.

The team said Arians rejoined the Cardinals at their San Diego hotel and was resting.

Arians wasn’t feeling well ahead of Tuesday’s practice at Qualcomm Stadium and was taken to a hospital by ambulance. He underwent tests and was stayed overnight in the hospital. Arians’ condition was not considered serious, according to reports.

The 63-year-old Arians has a history of health issues. In 2013, as the Indianapolis Colts’ offensive coordinator, he was hospitalized before the team’s wild-card game against the Baltimore Ravens and was unable to coach in the game. Arians had an inner-ear infection and the doctors kept him in the hospital while they worked to stabilize his blood pressure. He also was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007 and had surgery.

Arians is entering his fourth season as the Cardinals’ coach. His squad has improved each year: 10-6 in 2013, 11-5 before a wild-card playoff loss in 2014, then 13-3 with a trip the NFC Championship Game in 2015.

Before moving to Arizona, Arians was the offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers (2007-11) and the Colts (2012). He became the Colts’ interim head coach on Oct. 1, 2012, when Chuck Pagano stepped away to deal with leukemia, and Arians guided Indianapolis to a 9-3 record. He was selected NFL Coach of the Year that season, then again in 2014.

The Cardinals were scheduled to scrimmage against the Chargers again Wednesday afternoon ahead of a Friday night preseason game in San Diego. Arizona lost 31-10 to the visiting Oakland Raiders last Friday.
