Chicago Cubs right-handed reliever Pedro Strop will miss at least one more week due to a strained right hamstring.

Strop felt something in the leg on his final pitch of Saturday’s outing against the Los Angeles. An MRI exam revealed minor damage.

“According to the MRI, it was barely noticeable,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters. “So we don’t think it’s going to be anything horribly long, but we don’t know for sure. We’d like to think we’ll be able to get him ready for the beginning of the season.”

The Cubs open the season on March 28 against the Texas Rangers, and Strop expects to be serving as Chicago’s closer that day with Brandon Morrow still recovering from elbow surgery.

“I’ll be ready for Day 1, 100 percent,” the 33-year-old Strop said Wednesday. “I’m not even limited in doing anything.”

Strop went 6-1 with 13 saves and a 2.26 ERA in 60 appearances last season.

Overall, he is 26-25 with 22 saves and a 3.05 ERA in 505 career relief appearances with the Rangers (2009-11), Baltimore Orioles (2011-13) and the Cubs.
