Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy’s status remains murky for Monday night’s matchup against the visiting New England Patriots.

McCoy remained in the NFL’s concussion protocol, Bills coach Sean McDermott told reporters on Saturday.

McDermott said the team will take it “one day at a time? regarding McCoy’s availability to play against the AFC East-leading Patriots.

Backup running back Chris Ivory also is a question mark. He was a limited participant in practice on Thursday and Friday after injuring his hamstring Wednesday.

McCoy was at practice Saturday but was wearing a non-contact jersey. He was injured in last week’s 37-5 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

A subject of trade speculation in advance of next week’s NFL deadline, McCoy was hurt last weekend when he fell hard on his helmet after he was hit along the sideline on a short run.

The 30-year-old McCoy has endured a tough season. He did not finish a Week 2 contest against the Los Angeles Chargers after sustaining cracked rib cartilage. He missed the following week as a result.

McCoy has rushed for a team-leading 244 yards and has 13 catches for 85 yards this season but he has yet to reach the end zone.

In his 10th season overall and fourth in Buffalo, McCoy rushed for 1,138 yards in 2017 — the sixth time in his career that he has eclipsed 1,000 yards.

A six-time Pro Bowl selection, McCoy has rushed for 10,336 yards and 66 touchdowns while also catching 454 passes for 3,463 yards and 15 scores in 139 career games with the Bills and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Buffalo has lost 14 of its last 16 home matchups against the Patriots (5-2), who have won four straight overall.
