The Carolina Panthers signed long snapper Danny Aiken as insurance for Thursday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Panthers announced Wednesday that Aiken would fill the roster spot created when guard Amini Silatolu was placed on injured reserve. Silatolu will undergo season-ending surgery after tearing the ACL in his left knee during the second half of the unbeaten Panthers’ 44-16 win against Washington on Sunday.

Aiken previously spent time with the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots.

Regular long snapper J.J. Jansen went to the doctor on Tuesday to be checked for a possible concussion because of headaches.

“He said he had taken a shot (against Washington), so we’ll see what the doctors decide,” Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Tuesday of Jansen.

Jansen has snapped in 106 games for the Panthers.
