The Chicago Bears acquired rookie linebacker Matthew Wells from the New England Patriots for backup guard Ryan Groy.

The Patriots announced the acquisition of Groy on Monday.

Wells, a sixth-round pick from Mississippi State, is undersized at 6-foot-2, 222, but is expected to play inside linebacker. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds at his pro day. His primary role if he makes the team would likely be special teams kick coverage.

Groy, undrafted out of Wisconsin, started three games for the Bears last season.
