With Odell Beckham Jr. helping make the selection for one of the Pro Bowl teams, he received a tongue-in-cheek warning from his New York Giants teammate, quarterback Eli Manning, that the two better end up on the same side in Hawaii.
The duo will team together Sunday in the NFL’s all-star showcase.
With the first overall pick Wednesday night, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was chosen to represent Team Irvin, captained by Hall of Famer Michael Irvin with assistance from Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman and Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins.
Team Rice, captained by Hall of Famer Jerry Rice with help from Beckham and St. Louis Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, responded by selecting Manning.
Ahead of the selections, Manning said, “I told Odell, I said, ‘Odell, hey, I know you’re captain, don’t feel any pressure to draft me. But if you don’t draft me, don’t expect to catch any balls next year. No pressure at all.’ I left it at that, and I think he’ll make an educated decision at the draft.”
Team Irvin’s second selection was Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones.
Team Rice followed by selecting Oakland Raiders outside linebacker/defensive end Khalil Mack with its second pick.
Others on the Team Rice offense include quarterback Derek Carr of the Raiders, running backs Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings and Doug Martin of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, fullback John Kuhn of the Green Bay Packers, wide receivers Jarvis Landry of the Miami Dolphins and Amari Cooper of the Raiders, tackles Kyle Long of the Chicago Bears and Joe Staley of the San Francisco 49ers, guards Richie Incognito of the Buffalo Bills and Logan Mankins of the Buccaneers, and center Nick Mangold of the New York Jets.
The Team Irvin offense includes running back Todd Gurley of the Los Angeles Rams, fullback Patrick DiMarco of the Falcons, wide receivers A.J. Green of the Bengals and DeAndre Hopkins of the Houston Texans, tackle Branden Albert of the Dolphins, guard David DeCastro of the Steelers and center Travis Frederick of the Dallas Cowboys.
The Team Rice defense includes cornerbacks Vontae Davis of the Indianapolis Colts and Marcus Peters of the Kansas City Chiefs, defensive end Everson Griffen of the Vikings, defensive tackle Fletcher Cox of the Philadelphia Eagles, outside linebacker Tamba Hali of the Chiefs and inside linebacker Clay Matthews of the Packers.
On defense, Team Irvin features cornerbacks Richard Sherman of the Seahawks and Desmond Trufant of the Falcons, defensive ends Michael Bennett of the Seahawks and Ezekiel Ansah of the Lions, outside linebackers Anthony Barr of the Vikings and Lavonte David of the Buccaneers, and inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman of the 49ers.
The Team Rice specialists are kicker Josh Brown of the Giants, punter Johnny Hekker of the Rams, punt returner Tyler Lockett of the Seahawks and special teams player Cedric Peerman of the Bengals.
Team Irvin’s specialists are kicker Dan Bailey of the Cowboys, punter Sam Koch of the Baltimore Ravens, punt returner Darren Sproles of the Eagles and special teams player Justin Bethel of the Cardinals.
