With the NFL supplemental draft just days away on July 11, the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills have been listed as likely teams who might make a splash.

Of the five players available, the most interesting, Western Michigan cornerback Sam Beal, could land on the shores of Lake Erie, with either the Browns or the Bills. Every team sent a representative to Beal’s supplemental workout where he ran a wind-assisted 4.40 in the 40-yard as well as a 4.55 40 against the wind.

The Browns’ general manager John Dorsey attended.

“The Browns as a franchise have a history of taking elite talent in the supplemental draft, most notably with Josh Gordon. While the front office and coaching staff aren’t the same, there’s no reason why the Browns should pass up on an elite talent like Beal,” FanSided’s Michael Johnson said.

The Browns have two picks in the third round.

Dane Brugler of NFLDraftScout.com projects Beal as a third-round pick.

“Overall, Beal’s unsophisticated technique, anticipation and discipline need work before he is ready for a steady diet of NFL snaps, but he has coachable tools and impressive physical traits to be a ‘cover-and-clobber’ style of outside cornerback.

The other four players available in the supplemental draft are Mississippi State safety Brandon Bryant, Virginia Tech cornerback Adonis Alexander, Oregon State linebacker Bright Ugwoegbu and Grand Valley State running back Martayveus Carter.

The supplemental draft is carried out via e-mail among teams and is not televised. The selection order is different as well.

The teams are slotted into three groups based on their win/loss percentage the previous year and are then placed in a lottery, with the official order not being released to the public.

Teams interested in selecting a player contact the league via email with a list of the prospects they would draft and the round in which they would take them. If a team uses a third-round pick, for example, then it forfeits its third-round pick in the next draft.
