The Seattle Seahawks on Monday made official what had been reported on Sunday: Free-agent cornerback Brandon Browner is officially back with the team.
Browner was a key member of the secondary that helped them win the Super Bowl following the 2013 season.
His agent, Peter Schaffer, told the Seattle Times that he had never seen Browner happier after the Seahawks approached him.
“He always stayed in great touch with Richard (Sherman) and Kam (Chancellor) and Earl (Thomas) and Tharold (Simon), and he always considered himself a member of the Legion of Boom. He never left.”
Browner planned to fly straight from his brother’s wedding in Maui so he could be back in Seattle to sign a contract and start the Seahawks’ offseason program, which started Monday.
He played three seasons with Seattle from 2011 through 2013 and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2011. He started 36 games over those three seasons and was part of the Seahawks’ strong pass defense in those seasons.
He left Seattle and signed with the New England Patriots prior to the 2014 season, and he played for the New Orleans Saints in 2015.
He was released by the Saints following last season and later claimed he played the entire 2015 season with a torn MCL suffered in the first preseason game.
The Seahawks also finalized exclusive rights tenders to safety Steven Terrel, cornerback Mohammad Seisay and tight end Cooper Helfet.
Center Patrick Lewis signed a restricted free agent tender.
