Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo returned to the practice field on a limited basis Wednesday for the first time since sustaining a compression fracture in his back on Aug. 25.

Romo was not in full uniform but was able to throw passes without any issues during the portion of practice open to the media. He tossed pre-practice passes and then alternated with Dak Prescott and Mark Sanchez in throwing to the Cowboys’ backup receivers and tight ends. Romo’s throws were anywhere from 5 to 25 yards in length and had good velocity, according to ESPN.

Coach Jason Garrett said he was unsure whether Romo would do more later in the week. Prescott, who has passed for 1,486 yards with seven touchdown passes and just one interception in helping the Cowboys post a 5-1 record, will start Sunday night against the Philadelphia Eagles (4-2).

–Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Jared Odrick and tight end Julius Thomas are listed as questionable to play in Thursday night’s game against the Tennessee Titans.

Odrick played last week after being questionable with a hip injury but he was listed on Wednesday’s injury report with a quad issue. He did not practice Tuesday and Wednesday. In four games this season, Ordrick has eight tackles and one sack.

Thomas did not practice Tuesday due to an ankle injury that has been lingering over the last few weeks. He was upgraded to a limited workout participant on Wednesday. Thomas has 16 catches for 196 yards and two touchdowns in five games.

–The New England Patriots officially announced the trade for linebacker Kyle Van Noy from the Detroit Lions.

Van Noy, 25, is in his third NFL season after originally joining Detroit as a second-round pick (40th overall) out of BYU in the 2014 NFL Draft.

The Patriots sent a sixth-rounder to the Lions and received Van Noy plus a seventh-round pick. New England also signed defensive lineman Anthony Johnson to the practice squad.

To make room on the practice squad, the Patriots released offensive lineman Chase Farris. He was signed by New England to the practice squad on Oct. 5.

–The Arizona Cardinals promoted rookie wide receiver Chris Hubert from the practice squad to the active roster.

Hubert spent the preseason with the Cardinals and was on the team’s practice squad for the first week of the season until he was released on Sept. 13.

The Cardinals also re-signed guard/tackle Martin Wallace to the practice squad.

–For the second straight week, Miami Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week after his back-to-back 200-yard rushing games.

The NFL also announced that Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams was named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week for Week 7.

San Diego Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman took the AFC defensive honor. New York Giants safety Landon Collins was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Oakland punter Marquette King received the AFC special teams award.
Philadelphia kick returner Josh Huff was named the NFC special teams player of the Week.

–Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and his wife, singer Ciara, are expecting their first child.

The stars announced the pregnancy Tuesday night by sharing the same photo on Instagram. “The Greatest Blessing of All. Forever Grateful. #BabyWilsonOnTheWay,” Wilson wrote under a black-and-white photo.

This is the 27-year-old Wilson’s first child. Ciara, who turned 31 on Tuesday, has a 2-year-old son from a previous relationship with rapper Future. The couple married during a July 6 ceremony in Cheshire, England.
