Cowboys struggles causing Garrett to go quiet
It seems like the worse the Dallas Cowboys’ outlook becomes, the more Dallas head coach Jason Garrett keeps his comments about the team basic to the point of being mundane.
According to Garrett, the Eagles have a solid defense at all three levels and a productive offense. On the flip side, his team has to be more balanced on offense.
When asked about the team tuning out the noise from fans and the media, Garrett said that’s the objective whether they’re winning or losing. Specifically speaking about his team’s attitude this week following a 28-14 loss to Tennessee on Monday night, Garrett said he likes the group’s work ethic.
“Great spirit and energy this morning and hopefully we’ll have a good practice today,” Garrett said.
But Garrett might have revealed something in his comments about Dallas’s ability to find running room for Ezekiel Elliott.
“If they want to put a lot of guys up in the box and take (Elliott) away, that’s typically when the quarterback runs have come alive,” Garrett said.
Reading between the lines, it sounds like Garrett is saying that if Elliott isn’t getting loose, then quarterback Dak Prescott should be picking up the slack in the running game. But on Monday night, the Titans held Elliott to 61 rushing yards on 17 carries and Prescott ran for 11 yards on two attempts.
Add that to the fact that Prescott gave up a pair of costly turnovers that Garrett said were poor decisions and it’s obvious Garrett is pointing to quarterback play holding back the Dallas offense.
