As a result, Elliott is expected to be on the field when the Cowboys face the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara, Calif.

The NFL Players Association filed the motion for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction as part of the federal lawsuit initiated by the NFL. The Southern District Court of New York heard the NFLPA’s motion before giving its ruling.

The NFL won a court battle last Thursday when a three-judge panel from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals vacated the earlier injunction blocking the six-game suspension imposed on Elliott. As a result, the NFL reinstated Elliott’s six-game suspension, and it appeared at that time Elliott would be sitting out the next six games.

However, Tuesday’s ruling allows Elliott to compete this weekend, unless there is another court ruling between now and Sunday.

In granting the temporary restraining order Tuesday, U.S. District Jude Paul Crotty said the action is pending a hearing before the presiding judge, Katherine Polk Fialla.

The NFL originally imposed the six-game suspension on Elliott as the result of an alleged domestic violence incident.

Elliott has 105 carries for 393 yards and two touchdowns this season. He led the NFL in rushing last season.
