The Green Bay Packers probaby will be without one of their top receivers for the remainder of the season.

The Packers announced Tuesday that they placed receiver Geronimo Allison on injured reserve with a groin injury. He must sit out at least eight weeks and could return only in the postseason, if the Packers reach the playoffs.

Allison suffered the injury last Thursday in practice and did not play in Green Bay’s 31-17 loss to New England on Sunday night.

Allison played just five games, including four starts, this season, but he still ranks fourth on the team in receptions (20) and receiving yards (303) and had two touchdown catches.

He missed two games with a hamstring injury before returning for the Oct. 28 game against the Rams. Allison had his worst game of the season in that contest, recording just one catch for 14 yards. He has not played in a game since.

Allison was on his way to his best season in his three-year NFL career. He had 12 catches for 202 yards in 2016 as a rookie and had 23 receptions for 253 yards in 15 games, including two starts, last season.

Rookie Marquez Valdes-Scantling is expected to replace Allison on Green Bay’s depth chart heading into Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

Valdes-Scantling has appeared in eight games and has 17 receptions for 358 yards and two touchdowns. He had three receptions for 101 yards against the Patriots.
