Kansas City Chiefs LogoLaurent Duvernay-Tardif and the Kansas City Chiefs agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $41.25 million, ESPN reports.

The 26-year-old offensive guard will receive $20 million in guaranteed money.

Duvernay-Tardif started all 14 games he played last season and started 13 of 16 games as a rookie in 2015. The Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec native was drafted in the sixth round (200th overall) by the Chiefs in 2014.

Duvernay-Tardif currently attends medical school at McGill University in Montreal in the offseason, but has participated in most of the Chiefs’ offseason workouts and has not missed an offseason practice.

ESPN reports the Chiefs are also making a “strong push” to complete a deal with Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry ahead of Wednesday’s franchise tag deadline.

NFL.com reported Monday that Berry and the Chiefs are working on a contract that will make him the highest-paid safety in the NFL. Despite that, Berry told the Kansas City Star he wasn’t getting his hopes up.

Berry, 28, had 77 tackles, four interceptions (two touchdown returns) and nine passes defensed in 2016.
