The Miami Dolphins fired Adam Gase after three seasons as their head coach, the team announced on Monday.

Miami also announced that executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum will no longer continue to work in that role.

General manager Chris Grier has been promoted to run the team’s football operations.

The 40-year-old Gase was let go one day after the Dolphins dropped their third straight game with a 42-17 setback to the Buffalo Bills.

Miami finished with a 7-9 record this season despite winning its first three games.

Gase posted a 23-25 mark during his three seasons at the helm in Miami. The Dolphins lost their playoff game in that span with a wild-card setback to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2016

The Dolphins’ passing game was limited to 181.3 yards per contest this season, which is third worst in the league.

Miami also finished 24th or worse in total offense in all three seasons under Gase, including 31st in 2018. The Dolphins recorded five games this season where they finished with fewer than 200 yards.

Gase said prior to Sunday’s game against the Bills that he didn’t “need to lobby for my job” and that if owner Stephen Ross “says there’s an issue, I’ll know.”

Gase did lament the rash of injuries that decimated the team this season.

“I wish everybody hadn’t gotten hurt,” said Gase, who cited the 13 players who ended the year on injured reserve.
