Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has missed the squad’s first two practices with a hamstring injury, coach Mike Zimmer said Saturday.
Zimmer described Peterson’s injury as a slight pull and said it occurred while the three-time rushing champion was working out the week before training camp began.
“He can do things; he just can’t turn it all the way loose,” Zimmer told reporters. “We’re just being careful.”
Peterson insisted his absence will be short. He passed the club’s conditioning test on Friday and worked out on the side on Saturday.
Peterson led the NFL in rushing last season with 1,485 yards, marking the seventh time in his career that he has rushed for more than 1,200 yards in a season.
