The Minnesota Vikings hired Pat Shurmur as tight ends coach on Monday.

Shurmur replaces Kevin Stefanski, who will move to running backs coach after Kirby Wilson became the Cleveland Browns’ running game coordinator last week.

Shurmur joins the Vikings after spending the previous three seasons as the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator and served as interim head coach for one game, a 35-30 win over the New York Giants, in the 2015 regular-season finale after head coach Chip Kelly was fired.

Shurmur, a former head coach with the Cleveland Browns, enters his 18th season coaching in the NFL. Shurmur was the Eagles’ tight ends coach from 1999-2001.

The 50-year-old Shurmur was 9-23 in two years as head coach of the Browns for the 2011-12 seasons. Prior to his time in Cleveland, Shurmur spent two seasons (2009-10) as the St. Louis Rams’ offensive coordinator. He spent 10 years as an Eagles assistant (1999-2008) before returning in 2013 as Kelly’s offensive coordinator.
