Saints wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. was ruled out of Monday night’s game against the Washington Redskins in New Orleans because of a knee injury.

Ginn didn’t practice this week and with the Saints off in Week 6, he could return for the game against the Ravens in Baltimore on Oct. 21.

Ginn has 12 catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns this season with 22 targets, third-most looks on the team to Alvin Kamara (47) and Michael Thomas (44). Only Thomas (three) has more TD receptions.

Ginn probably won’t be a part of history as New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees needs 201 yards to eclipse Peyton Manning as the NFL’s all-time passing leader.

Without Ginn, Brees could look to wide receiver Cameron Meredith more with the Redskins expected to devote significant attention to Thomas. Meredith, in his fourth season out of Illinois State, has a touchdown catch among his four receptions, which have come on five targets.

Meredith was inactive for the first two games this season.

Rookie wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith could also see more action. Smith, a third-round draft pick out of Central Florida, could serve as Brees’ deep threat.

The Saints have won three straight after opening the season with a 48-40 loss at home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
