The Philadelphia Eagles reached an agreement with Jim Schwartz to become their defensive coordinator, according to multiple reports Tuesday.

Schwartz will join the staff of new head coach Doug Pederson, who replaced the ousted Chip Kelly.

The Cleveland Browns and the Jacksonville Jaguars apparently were also interested in Schwartz to fill their defensive coordinator openings. ESPN reported that Schwartz had interviewed in Jacksonville.

The 49-year-old Schwartz also was interested in returning to Tennessee, where he served as defensive coordinator from 2001 to 2008 after two years as a defensive asssistant and still lives.

This past season, Schwartz worked as an officiating consultant for the NFL. The previous year, he was the defensive coordinator under Doug Marrone with the Buffalo Bills.

From 2009 to 2013, Schwartz was the Detroit Lions head coach, leading the team to a 29-51 overall record and one playoff berth in his five seasons.

Pederson was officially named head coach in Philadelphia on Monday after leaving his job as offensive coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs under former Eagles coach Andy Reid.
