SAN DIEGO — There’s nothing like a Victory Monday to put the bounce in a team’s step.

But there were few Chargers skipping about the facility the day after San Diego evened its record with a 38-14 spanking of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

As great as Sunday’s triumph was, it came with a heck of cost: running back Danny Woodhead is out for the season.

Coach Mike McCoy confirmed that Woodhead, who was injured in the first half, will join other key Chargers players on the sideline.

Woodhead, who led all NFL running backs in receptions last year, is the second crucial player in as many weeks to go off on a court.

Keenan Allen went down in the opening-day loss at Kansas City.

So in two weeks, the Chargers’ offense has taken two significant hits.

McCoy admitted losing Woodhead hurts.

“He does everything the way you want it to be done and he is even a better person,” McCoy said. “It is a shame that this happened. I promise you one thing Danny will be back, better than ever.”

Woodhead, at 5 feet 8, always played with a chip on his shoulder. And McCoy said that was made him so productive.

“He treats every day as his last day,” McCoy said. “He is a great example of what it means to be a pro.”

The Chargers know now what it means to be a winner. The rebound was a big one against the Jaguars and now they will try to match their 2015 road win total by prevailing in Indianapolis on Sunday.

But that will come soon enough. It was a rare Victory Monday around Chargers Park, although this one came with a wounded knee.
