Former Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart is visiting the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday, according to a published report.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that the Washington native is looking to latch on with the Seahawks after being released from the Panthers on Feb. 28. Stewart reportedly grew up watching the Seahawks and played high school football at Timberline High in Lacey, Wash., 45 miles south of Seattle.

Stewart spent his entire 10-year NFL career with Carolina since being selected out of Oregon with the 13th overall pick in the 2008 draft. He has 7,318 career rushing yards with 51 rushing touchdowns on 1,699 carries with the Panthers.

The soon-to-be 31-year-old rushed for 680 yards and a career-worst 3.4 yards per carry this past season while sharing the backfield with rookie Christian McCaffrey.

Should Stewart sign with the Seahawks, he would join a crowded backfield that includes Chris Carson, C.J. Prosise, Mike Davis, Thomas Rawls and J.D. McKissic. Quarterback Russell Wilson led Seattle in rushing last season with 586 yards — 346 more than Davis.
