The Los Angeles Rams named Michael Groh as their passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach on Monday.

Groh, 44, joins the Rams after spending the last three seasons with the Chicago Bears. He is the son of Al Groh, a former head coach of the New York Jets and a longtime NFL assistant.

“I’m very excited to have Coach Groh join our staff,” Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said in a statement. “He’s a talented, young coach that has proven himself on the college level as well as in the NFL. We’re looking forward to what he will bring to our offense.”

Under Groh, the Bears have had three 1,000-yard receiving seasons with Alshon Jeffery reaching the mark in both 2013 (1,421) and 2014 (1,133) and Brandon Marshall reaching the plateau in 2013 (1,295). Jeffery is ninth in the NFL in receiving yards (3,361) over the last three seasons.

Prior to joining the Bears, Groh spent two seasons as Alabama’s wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator, helping lead the Crimson Tide to back-to-back national championships. He was part of three total national titles at Alabama.

In between his stints at Alabama, Groh spent the 2010 season as the quarterbacks coach at Louisville. He coached at his alma mater, Virginia, for eight seasons (2001-08), including the final three years as the offensive coordinator on his father’s staff. In 2000, he served on Al Groh’s staff as an offensive assistant/quality control coach for the Jets.
