The Washington Redskins released defensive lineman Anthony Lanier, the team announced Saturday.

Lanier was waived with an injury settlement one day before the Redskins will kick off the 2018 season with a road game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Entering his third NFL season, the 6-foot-6, 285-pound Lanier appeared in 11 games and made two starts for Washington last season. He registered 14 tackles and 5.0 sacks.

An undrafted free agent out of Alabama A&M, Lanier notched all of his sacks in a five-game span between mid-November and mid-December a year ago. He was inactive for the first four weeks of the season but saw an increasing role as injuries ravaged the Redskins’ defensive front line.

Lanier also had six passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 2017. He had appeared in only four games as a rookie before he was hurt and eventually placed on injured reserve.
