–The Redskins went injured reserve crazy again on Wednesday and it is getting ridiculous. Cornerback Quinton Dunbar is the big name with a nerve injury in his leg that prevents him from running with much force at all. Dunbar is the fourth-year pro opposite Josh Norman and his loss leaves the secondary dangerously young, inexperienced and thin.

“I’ve been saying it all along, this is a unique injury,” head coach Jay Gruden said. “When you are talking about the nerve, we don’t know exactly how long this is going to be, but we know it is a slow healing process. So, what I think is best for him in his future is let’s get this thing checked. When you’re talking about nerves, it worries me a little bit. I know it worries him and it worries the staff, we haven’t been able to quite find exactly the timetable for this thing.”

–Washington thought it had something working with wide receiver Trey Quinn, the last player drafted in 2018, back from injured reserve. He was hurt in Week 1, but had a real nice game Thanksgiving Day against Dallas. He recovered from ankle surgery and was a nice option as a slot receiver and punt returner. Now he’s on injured reserve again. The ankle swelled up after the Dallas game on a short week after his return four days before in a home game against the Houston Texans. Quinn was in a boot and it was decided he couldn’t play Monday against the Eagles.

“Trey is fresh off a surgery this year, tried to fight through it, played well against Dallas and then I think the short week playing Dallas on Thursday made it flare up quite a bit and we weren’t sure if the timetable was three, four weeks, five weeks or what have you,” Gruden said “But thought the best for Trey was to go ahead and put him down.”

–The Redskins had to sign another quarterback with Colt McCoy going on injured reserve and Mark Sanchez being elevated to the starter. They went with Josh Johnson as the backup. He was with head coach Jay Gruden in both Tampa Bay and Cincinnati and knows the terminology of the offense. That trumped everything else on short notice even if he hasn’t appeared in a NFL game since 2013.

BY THE NUMBERS: 33 – Punts Redskins punter Tress Way has pinned inside the 20 this season. That tops the NFL.
