Detroit Lions running back Ameer Abdullah is expected to miss the rest of the season with a foot injury.

According to ESPN, Abdullah’s foot injury, which landed him on injured reserve after Week 2, will not permit him to return this season. Injured reserve rules allow for every team to activate one player who misses at least eight weeks.

Abdullah, the Lions’ leading rusher with 101 yards on 18 carries this season, hobbled off the field after a 24-yard run late in the second quarter. He has caught five passes for 57 yards and a touchdown.

Initial X-rays on the foot showed no broken bones, but the 23-year-old Abdullah went to Charlotte, N.C., on Tuesday for a second opinion with specialist Dr. Robert Anderson, according to ESPN.

— Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson sprained his left knee in Seahawks win on Sunday.

Coach Pete Carroll expects Wilson to play next week, but it’s likely he will be less than 100 percent.

“A little bit of a knee sprain,” Carroll said Sunday afternoon. “He’s walking around feeling good about it. He’s half-crazy about these things. He’s going to will it to happen; that’s just the way he is. But most likely, he’s going to be fine.”

— New York Giants center Weston Richburg was ejected Sunday after his second unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in the game against the Washington Redskins.

Richburg was given the automatic ejection, known as the “Odell Beckham rule,” Sunday in the fourth quarter with the Giants leading Washington 24-23. Richburg is the first player tossed from a game under the rule passed in the offseason, which calls for automatic ejection of any player flagged for two personal foul infractions.

His first unsportsmanlike flag was in the first quarter. Richburg was flagged for jawing at game officials after being called for holding.

— The Giants saw two key components of their secondary bitten by the injury bug during Sunday’s game against the Redskins.

Eli Apple sustained a hamstring injury midway through the second quarter and was ruled out for the rest of the way. Fellow cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie injured a groin midway through the third quarter.

Apple, the Giants’ first-round draft pick, has been rotating on the outside with Rodgers-Cromartie. He had one tackle in the game before exiting. Trevin Wade took Apple’s snaps on defense and Leon Hall replaced Rodgers-Cromartie.

— Redskins cornerback Bashaud Breeland suffered a leg injury on the Giants’ second possession of Sunday’s game between the NFC East rivals.

On the play, Breeland attempted to help on a tackle of Giants rookie receiver Sterling Shepard on a 12-yard reception that gave New York a first-and-goal. It looked like Breeland was stepped on the play and had to be helped off the field where he was carted off for further examination.

— Green Bay Packers tight end Jared Cook sustained an injured right ankle during the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions.

On the first play after Damarious Randall’s interception set up Green Bay at Detroit’s 25-yard line, Cook was unable to catch a deep pass thrown slightly behind him by quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Cook, who had one catch for 15 yards, hobbled off the field and was examined by trainers before being taken to the locker room.

Cook missed most of the Packers’ offseason program and the start of training camp after minor foot surgery. Neither Cook nor the team said which foot was injured.

–The Kansas City Chiefs were without one of their offensive weapons and the New York Jets had limited use of one of their big play receivers on Sunday.

Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles did not play as he continues to rehab a knee injury that he suffered last October. He has been practicing, but the Chiefs are being conservative in handling his return. For the Jets, wide receiver Brandon Marshall is active, but his participation is expected to be limited because of a knee injury.

Along the offensive line, the Chiefs were without starting left guard Parker Ehinger (concussion/ankle) and guard-tackle Jah Reid (ankle/knee).
