Pirates starter Chris Archer left Pittsburgh’s Tuesday home game against the Washington Nationals at the start of the second inning because of right shoulder discomfort.
Archer apparently injured himself during his fifth warm-up throw ahead of the inning.
The score was 0-0 when he left, as he escaped a second-and-third, one-out jam in the first inning by striking out Juan Soto and Asdrubal Cabrera.
The early exit extended Archer’s winless streak to 13 starts. Since he beat the Atlanta Braves on June 6, Archer is 0-4 with a 5.18 ERA. On the year, he is 3-9 with a 5.19 ERA.
Archer, 30, is in his second season with the Pirates after he spent 6 1/2 seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, making the All-Star team twice. He has a career 60-80 record with a 3.86 ERA in 212 games (210 starts).
