Fresh off joining the Heisman Trophy race, Ohio State defensive end Chase Young is set to miss Saturday’s home game against Maryland as the Buckeyes look into a potential NCAA violation from last season.

“Unfortunately, I won’t be playing this week because of an NCAA eligibility issue,” Young tweeted on Friday. “I made a mistake last year by accepting a loan from a family friend I’ve known since the summer before my freshman year at OSU. I repaid it in full last summer and I’m working with the University and NCAA to get back on the field as soon as possible.”

The school acknowledged that the athletic department was looking into the matter.

The Buckeyes have four games left in the regular season.

Young, a junior, had a breakout performance with five tackles for loss and four sacks in the top-ranked Buckeyes’ 38-7 win over No. 13 Wisconsin in their most recent game.

Young leads the country in sacks with 13.5 — four better than Boise State’s Curtis Weaver — and is tied for second with 15.5 tackles for loss, behind DeAngelo Malone of Western Kentucky (16).
