No. 15 SMU will play Saturday’s showdown at No. 24 Memphis without star wide receiver Reggie Roberson Jr.

Roberson sustained a foot injury in the first quarter of the Mustangs’ 34-31 victory over Houston on Oct. 24 and was seen in a walking boot and crutches after the game. He did not travel with the team to face the Tigers (7-1, 3-1 American Athletic Conference).

Roberson’s 803 receiving yards rank eighth in the nation while his 18.7 yards per catch are tops for SMU (8-0, 4-0). His six receiving touchdowns rank second on the team.

Rashee Rice, Myron Gailliard and tight end Kylen Granson likely will see more playing time in the absence of Roberson.

The Mustangs have stamped themselves as the favorite among six schools to win the Group of Five’s berth in the Cotton Bowl, which would be a de facto home game for SMU.
