Boston College reportedly fired coach Steve Addazio on Sunday, ending his tenure with a seven-year record of 44-44.

Yahoo Sports first reported the news, adding that wide receivers coach Rich Gunnell will serve as interim head coach for the 6-6 Eagles, who are awaiting a postseason destination. Boston College won 26-19 at Pittsburgh on Saturday to become bowl eligible.

Addazio has led Boston College to bowl games in four of his previous six years but never won more than seven games in a season at the school.

He posted a record of 13-11 in two seasons at Temple before being hired at Boston College, which had won six games in two years before firing Frank Spaziani after the 2012 season.

Addazio made $2.64 million this season, according to the USA Today salary database. He received a two-year extension last December, putting him under contract through the 2022 season.
