Eagles seek bowl eligibility on Friday night

Turn on the Friday Night Lights as the Eagles prepare for a Hurricane.

With Boston College and Miami coming off their bye week and both 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the ACC, each will now seek to become bowl eligible in their prime-time meeting at Chestnut Hill on Friday night.

The Eagles, who are 4-0 at home, are coming off a win over Louisville and have played the last 2 1/2 games without star running back AJ Dillon.

Normally, coach Steve Addazio meets with the media on Monday. But this week, all activity was canceled, leaving no word on whether Dillon, out with an ankle sprain, will return for this game.

In the last game, both converted wide receiver Ben Glines and freshman David Bailey ran for over 100 yards and Anthony Brown was 16-of-22 through the air in the win over the Cardinals.

“Important, what I thought we saw was a team that had great resilience and toughness,” Addazio said after the game. “When momentum seemed to be shifting a bit, they steadied the boat, overcame it in the end.”

The Eagles blocked two kicks in the game, one a punt that was turned into a touchdown by Travis Levy, who has done that the past two weeks. Zach Allen also blocked extra point.

“All in all, we’re going to head into the bye week 5-2,” the coach said. “Have a chance to get rested, have a chance to get AJ back healthy and ready to roll, have a strong football team heading down the back end of this season.

The Hurricanes had their five-game winning streak stopped and fell out of the Top 25 with a 16-13 loss at Virginia before their break. They come into this game as 2 1/2-point road favorites over the Eagles.
