Georgia’s loss is Clemson’s gain.

Bubba Chandler, who had been committed to play baseball at Georgia, announced Wednesday he instead will play both football and baseball at Clemson.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity!” he posted on Twitter. “I can not thank the people who have supported me through this enough!

“With that being said I’m 1000% committed for Football and Baseball to Clemson University!!”

The 6-foot-4 Chandler is from Bogart, Ga., and plays both sports at North Oconee High School. He is a three-star football recruit, ranked as the No. 25 pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2021 in the 247Sports composite. According to recruiting service Perfect Game, he’s also a shortstop and a right-handed pitcher with a 91 mph fastball.

He was unranked and off the football radar until May 7, when he received an offer from Clemson. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, he’s gotten to know the Tigers’ coaching staff virtually instead of in person.

“I know where I want to go. I feel like it’d be a great fit,” Chandler told The State newspaper in South Carolina. “There’s really no better place to do it than Clemson University. After all these Zoom calls and FaceTime calls, I just feel like I would be walking into an atmosphere that would treat me like their son or just straight family. They’d love me from the first day I got there until the day I left.”

He decommitted from Georgia last week, and since the Clemson offer, he received scholarship opportunities from Miami, Louisville and Ole Miss, among others.

Clemson’s football team was 14-1 in 2019, its only loss coming to LSU in the College Football Playoff championship. Its baseball team was 14-3 overall and 3-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season before the NCAA canceled the remainder of the spring season because of the coronavirus. In 2019, the Tigers were 35-26 and 15-15 in the ACC, which was good for fourth place.
