Quarterback Trevor Lawrence and tailback Travis Etienne accounted for six total touchdowns while Brent Venables’ defense held Miami quarterback D’Eriq King in check to spark top-ranked Clemson to an impressive 42-17 win over the seventh-ranked Hurricanes on Saturday night. For their dominating performance, the Tigers are Lindy’s Team of the Week.

Lawrence, a junior, completed 29 of 41 passes for 292 yards and three TDs in the victory. He also added 34 yards rushing and a score.

Etienne, who averaged 8.8 yards per carry, rushed 17 times for 149 yards and two scores. The senior also added a team-high eight catches for 73 yards.

Junior tight end Braden Galloway had four receptions for 74 yards and two scores.

Defensively, Clemson did a great job of limiting the high-powered Miami offense, in particular dynamic ‘Canes quarterback D’Eriq King. King completed only 12 of 28 passes for a season-low 121 yards. He also threw two interceptions and was limited on the ground (84 yards) for pretty much the entire game sans a 58-yard scamper in the second quarter.

The Tigers limited the Hurricanes to nine first downs, 89 yards rushing and 121 yards passing. Clemson’s defense also had five sacks.

Junior linebacker Baylon Spector had five tackles, including 2.5 for loss, and a sack and a half. Sophomore linebacker Jake Venables had four tackles, including two for loss, and a sack.
