Duke linebacker Kelby Brown is out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

An All-ACC pick for the Blue Devils in 2013, Brown was carted off the field during Monday’s intrasquad scrimmage.

Brown had ACL surgeries on his right knee twice previously. Blue Devils coach David Cutcliffe said the injury was painful for the team, but trusted Brown, who had 114 tackles in 2013, would bounce back.

“When you have a great person, a great player and a guy that’s a stalwart in the program that’s had two knee surgeries, it’s upsetting to say the least,” Cutcliffe told the Raleigh News & Observer. “Kelby is a very strong spiritual person, too, so he’ll be fine.”
