Miami traveled to Blacksburg to play Virginia Tech as an underdog. That was hard to figure since the Hurricanes were 6-1 and ranked No. 9, while the Hokies were unranked at 4-3, coming off a loss to Liberty.

But with just under six minutes left in the game, it looked like the odds-makers might have it right.

Virginia Tech had led throughout the game, building an 11-point third quarter margin and time was running out for the visitors, who still trailed, 24-19.

Not a problem for D’Eriq King, Miami’s dual threat quarterback, and his talented receivers.

In nine plays, the Hurricanes had driven from their own 18-yard line to the Hokie’s 36-yard line. It was time for King and junior wide receiver Mark Pope to save the day. The senior signal caller threw a strike to Pope, who took it into the end zone for the final 25-24 victory margin.

For the game, Pope had four receptions for 50 yards, including the game winner. King completed 24 of 38 passes for 255 yards.

Pope’s touchdown grab is this week’s U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish “Catch of the Week.”

Remember … for the tailgate tent or the pre-game party, U. S. Farm-Raised Catfish is always “the winning catch.”

The Catfish Institute, or TCI, was formed in 1986 by catfish farmers and feed manufacturers to raise consumer awareness of the positive qualities of U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish. Since its formation, U.S. per capita consumption has more than doubled.
