North Carolina State has suspended seven players for the game against Louisville on Saturday after a BB gun incident, coach Dave Doeren announced Monday.

Linebacker Jerod Fernandez, who leads the Wolfpack with 58 tackles, and safety Josh Jones will sit along with wide receivers Jumichael Ramos and Johnathan Alston, defensive linemen Justin Jones and Pharoah McKever and cornerback Mike Stevens.

Five redshirt players — Tyler Jones, Kalen McCain, Deyshawn Middleton, Terronne Prescod and Maurice Trowell — were placed on probation.

The players reportedly were playing a game that involved shooting BB guns.

“These are good young men who made a mistake in not recognizing that this activity could have resulted in someone being injured,” Doeren said in a statement. “We have discussed this with them and they understand that they are being held responsible for their actions. The information was referred to the university’s office of student conduct as well. Our players admitted their mistake, and we will help them learn from it.”

N.C. State (4-3) is looking for its first ACC victory after an 0-3 start in conference play.
