GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: Saturday’s tilt against UCF will ultimately come down to how Pitt handles the Knights’ offense. UCF, which owns the nation’s longest winning streak at 16 games, is a top 10 scoring offense.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh ranks No. 85 in the FBS in scoring defense (28.8).

The Panthers’ defense was poised to be a highlight of its roster heading into the season. Going into UCF, it looks like a liability.

“This week the only thing I care about is what you do against Central Florida,” coach Pat Narduzzi said. “All we care about is right here, right now, where are you. And again, you’re evaluated weekly, not evaluated at the end of the season as we’ve mentioned before. You’re evaluated weekly, and individually and as a unit.”

DRAFT SLANT

–LB Quintin Wirginis, a senior, continues to be the leader of Pittsburgh’s defense. Against North Carolina, he racked up nine tackles, including one for a loss. On the season, he’s totaled 28 tackles, two sacks and 5.5 tackles for a loss.

ROSTER REPORT:

–DB Phil Campbell III is questionable for Saturday with an illness.

–RB Darrin Hall’s 84 yards against UNC were a season-high — a positive trend that gives Pittsburgh duality in the backfield along with Ollison. Hall broke off a 65-yard scamper last week and has two touchdowns so far this fall.
