KEY MATCHUP: Wake Forest defensive front vs. Rice’s Austin Walter. Wake Forest has had trouble on defense, and several opponents have posted big numbers against the Demon Deacons. Rice has a player capable of doing that in Walter, a fifth-year running back. He has 3,294 all-purpose yards in his career, ranking sixth in school history. He has a knack of doing that in several roles, something the Demon Deacons should be familiar with because they have do-everything player Greg Dortch on their roster. Walter has reached 150 all-purpose yards in all four games.

DRAFT SLANT

–C Ryan Anderson has started 33 consecutive games. He’s capable of shifting to guard or tackle if that’s what the Demon Deacons need. His stock began to rise last year as the Demon Deacons racked up record yardage totals and now scouts will have a chance to zero in on him to see what he’s doing so well on a regular basis.

ROSTER REPORT

–QB Kendall Hinton was back after a three-game team-imposed suspension to begin the season. He was used in several roles, including as a kickoff returner. Hinton also rushed for a 23-yard touchdown when he took a snap.

–QB Jamie Newman, who contended for the starting spot in August, played extensive second-half minutes against Notre Dame for the longest game action of the redshirt sophomore’s career. He was summoned when starting QB Sam Hartman suffered from cramping.

–WR Alex Bachman was back after missing a game with a hamstring injury. He was in a starting role, but made only one catch for 12 yards.
