PLAYERS TO WATCH

–QB Sam Hartman is coming off a rough game when he was sacked three times by Notre Dame and completed only 12 of 24 throws. He’ll look for a bounce back against a Rice team that has surrendered big chunks of yards.

–WR Greg Dortch made six catches against Notre Dame. He was above 100 all-purpose yards for the eighth consecutive game dating to last fall and he should have a chance to extend that streak against Rice.

–RB Matt Colburn has 1,997 rushing yards in his career. The senior can reach the 2,000-yard mark in the Rice game. If so, he’ll be the school’s 12th player to reach that milestone.

–S Chuck Wade Jr. was the team’s leading tackler with eight stops in the Notre Dame game. That’s quite a breakthrough for a player who spent the spring making the transition to defense after three seasons as a receiver.

SERIES HISTORY: Rice leads Wake Forest 1-0-1. The teams haven’t met since Rice’s 1990 victory.

QUOTE TO NOTE: “It’s been rough. Each week gave me time to think about what happened and learn from it. It gave me the urge to get back here and work.” — QB Kendall Hinton upon returning from a three-game team suspension. He was used as a returner, receiver and quarterback against Notre Dame.
