Things weren’t looking good for 19-point underdog Wake Forest.
With 1:34 remaining in the fourth quarter on the road in Raleigh, the Demon Deacons trailed No. 22 North Carolina State, 23-20, and were 80 yards from the end zone. It was up to quarterback Jamie Newman, making his first ever start, to move his team for the win.
After three pass completions for first downs moved the ball to the Wolfpack 32-yard line, tight end Jack Freudenthal teamed with Newman to make the play of the game with just 30 seconds left on the clock.
The junior tight end from Richmond, Va., was wide open over the middle. His touchdown reception and the extra point provided the 27-23 victory margin for the Deacons. The game-winning play is this week’s U.S. Farm-Raised Catfish “Catch of the Week.”
For the game, Newman completed 22 of 33 passes for 297 yards and three touchdowns. Freudenthal’s reception was his only catch of the day.
Remember … for the tailgate tent or the pre-game party, U. S. Farm-Raised Catfish is always “the winning catch.”
