Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is constructing a solid lead in the Heisman Trophy betting odds as the regular season reaches the halfway point.

Las Vegas Westgate SuperBook is offering less than even odds on Tagovailoa to win, posting him as a 5/8 wager. Other sportsbooks are offering more generous odds on Tagovailoa, including +125 at BetAmerica.com, +140 on FanDuel Sportsbook and +150 at DraftKings.

Tagovailoa, a junior, is second nationally in passing efficiency rating (225.1) and has thrown 23 touchdown passes with no interceptions for the top-ranked Crimson Tide. He is completing 76.4 percent of his passes (113 of 148) and is third nationally with 343.6 passing yards per game.

Alabama (5-0) will face its first ranked team of the season this week, playing at No. 24 Texas A&M.

Tagovailoa was also a comfortable betting favorite at this point last season before Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray surged late and won the award.

His stiffest competition right now comes from LSU quarterback Joe Burrow and another Oklahoma signal-caller — Jalen Hurts, Tagovailoa’s former teammate at Alabama. Burrow and Hurts are +350 at Westgate, with various sportsbooks varying in which quarterback they like better.

Burrow is +300 at BetAmerica but as high as +500 on FanDuel. Hurts — the nation’s leader in passing efficiency (231.3) — is the second betting favorite on FanDuel at +430.

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields and Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor are lurking on the next tier, including +850 for Fields and +950 on Taylor at FanDuel.

Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the preseason favorite, has seen his odds lengthen considerably. FanDuel and BetAmerica list him at +5000 after starting the season at +200.
