One of the top candidates to take over as head coach of the Baylor football program is staying put as Justin Fuente will remain at Virginia Tech.

Fuente posted a picture to Twitter of the Hokies coaching staff in a meeting with the words “2020 – Let’s go!”

ESPN reported that a Virginia Tech official confirmed Fuente will be back as head coach with the Hokies.

Fuente was a candidate to replace Matt Rhule, who left Baylor for the NFL to become the head coach of the Carolina Panthers. The former Oklahoma and Murray State quarterback now returns to Virginia Tech where he had just hired four defensive coaches and a football operations director.

Fuente, 43, is 53-33 in four seasons at Virginia Tech, as the Hokies went 8-5 this past season and played in the Belk Bowl. Fuente has guided the team into a bowl game in all four his seasons at the school.

He also was the head coach at Memphis for four seasons, going 26-23 from 2012 to 2015.
