The intrigue of Sunday’s College Football Playoff selection show focused on which team would end up being paired with undefeated Clemson in the presumed tougher semifinal matchup.

The selection committee elevated LSU from No. 2, while dropping Ohio State into that matchup with the third-seeded Tigers. The opening betting odds indicated the expected tight tussle, with Clemson quickly moving to a two-point favorite at Las Vegas Westgate SuperBook after the game opened as a pick-em.

No. 1 LSU, meanwhile, was listed as an 11-point favorite over fourth-seeded Oklahoma, according to Westgate.

It is a similar story at the online sportsbook at DraftKings. Clemson was listed as a 2.5-point favorite, with LSU favored by 11.5. By late afternoon Sunday, LSU was a 13-point favorite on PointsBet, which had Clemson as a 2-point favorite over the Buckeyes.

The DraftKings’ money line on Clemson was minus-127 (the amount a bettor would have to wager to earn $100 in profits), with Ohio State at +105. In the other matchup, LSU was minus-375 and Oklahoma +285.

LSU has the shortest odds to win the national title, listed at +120 by DraftKings, followed by Clemson and Ohio State (+225 each) and Oklahoma (+1000). PointsBet posted LSU as the favorite at +150, followed by Clemson (+190), Ohio State (+210) and Oklahoma (+1000).

The betting underdog in the national championship game has gone 5-0 against the spread and 3-2 straight-up.
