Former Texas quarterback Ja’Quinden Jackson announced Sunday he is transferring to Utah.
“NEW BEGINNINGS,” he posted on Twitter, along with a short video clip that ends with the word “Committed” and photos of himself in a Utes uniform.
Jackson, from Duncanville, Texas, was ranked No. 34 in the 2020 ESPN 300. The 247Sports Composite rated the four-star prospect as the nation’s No. 3 dual-threat quarterback.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound true freshman entered the NCAA transfer portal on Dec. 15 and will have all four years of eligibility remaining. He will be able to compete immediately due to a blanket waiver for transfers approved earlier this month by the NCAA Division I council.
Utah (3-2) has opted out of the bowl season and finished the year with a 45-28 victory over Washington State on Saturday.
The Utes’ roster this season included senior quarterbacks Jake Bentley and Drew Lisk and sophomore Cameron Rising, who also transferred from Texas in 2019. Utah also recently signed four-star prospect Peter Costelli from Mission Viejo, Calif.
