The Ivy League is considering holding its football season in the spring of 2021 due to the coronavirus outbreak, according to a report by TMG Sports.
The spring slate would consist of a seven-game campaign and would start in April and conclude in mid-May, according to the report.
The Ivy League also is considering a seven-game, conference-only schedule that begins in September and ends by Thanksgiving, according to the report.
The conference released a statement on Monday that didn’t confirm or deny the idea of a spring football season.
“The Ivy League Council of Presidents has been meeting frequently via videoconference this spring,” the statement said, according to ESPN. “Should the Council of Presidents make a determination regarding the status of intercollegiate athletic activity at Ivy League schools, that decision will be communicated first to Ivy League directors of athletics, coaches and student-athletes, followed by the wider Ivy League campus community, media and public.”
When the coronavirus outbreak picked up in March, the Ivy League was the first conference to cancel its men’s and women’s basketball conference tournaments.
