Former South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley announced Monday on Twitter that he will play his final college season at Utah.

Bentley will be a graduate transfer, making him eligible to play next season.

“Excited for this next step, can’t wait to be a part of the Utah family! #GoUtes @Utah_Football,” Bentley wrote.

Bentley was a starter for the Gamecocks for half of his freshman season, then throughout the next two seasons. He played in just one game for the Gamecocks this year as he sustained a season-ending foot injury in the opener against North Carolina.

The injury allowed him to redshirt and leave open the possibility of playing another collegiate season. He announced last week that he was entering his name in the transfer portal in hopes of finding a new school.

“The past 3 1/2 years have been incredible,” Bentley said of his South Carolina tenure on Twitter. “I have met lifelong friends and made memories that I will never forget. However, at this time, I believe that it is in my best interest to graduate on December 16th and transfer to play my final year of eligibility.”

Bentley passed for 7,527 yards, 55 touchdowns and 32 interceptions in 34 games for the Gamecocks. After Bentley got hurt, freshman Ryan Hilinski inherited the job, and he threw for 2,357 yards with 11 touchdown passes and five interceptions for South Carolina (4-8)

No. 11 Utah has a need at quarterback as three-year starter Tyler Huntley will finish his career against Texas in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 31. Huntley has passed for 7,225 yards with 45 touchdown passes and 20 interceptions for the Utes.
