UConn and Boston College agreed on Wednesday to play a home-and-home football series in the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

The most recent game involving the programs was in November 2017, when the Eagles defeated the Huskies 39-16 at Fenway Park. Boston College leads the overall series 12-0-2.

UConn, which is leaving the American Athletic Conference and will turn to independent status in 2020, will host the next game of the series, on Oct. 29, 2022, at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn. The Huskies go to BC’s Alumni Stadium on Oct. 28, 2023.

As an independent, UConn will have to fill out a schedule that includes only three 2022 opponents at the moment — Central Connecticut, Boston College and North Carolina State. Four games are scheduled for 2023 — Duke, Lafayette, North Carolina State and Boston College.

The Huskies begin the 2019 season at home against Wagner on Aug. 29. The Eagles, a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, will host their season opener against Virginia Tech on Aug. 31.
