BYU became the second team to secure a bowl spot when it accepted an invitation to play in the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego on Dec. 20.

Navy has already agreed to play in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco against a Pac-12 opponent on Dec. 29.

BYU also is scheduled to play a Pac-12 foe.

“We are excited to receive the formal invitation to play in the 2012 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. BYU has a storied bowl history in San Diego, dating back to the first Holiday Bowl in 1978, and we are looking forward to returning to Qualcomm Stadium,” said BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe in a release. “We have a large fan base in Southern California, and San Diego is a great destination for a holiday season bowl game.”

The Cougars (6-4) have a three-year agreement to play in the bowl provided they do not qualify for a BCS game.
