GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: Baylor’s defense isn’t among the most talented in the Big 12, but it’s one of the fastest. It’ll be another test for Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy to fit the ball into tight spaces against a speedy secondary. Of course, Purdy hasn’t failed one of these tests yet this year, but there’s always a first time.

DRAFT SLANT

–RB David Montgomery has 712 yards through the first eight games, one of which he missed with an injury. Barring more bumps and bruises, he’s in great shape to become the first Iowa State running back with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons since Ennis Haywood managed that feat in 2000-2001.

ROSTER REPORT:

–DE Enyi Uwazurike missed the Kansas game with an injured hamstring. It’s unclear when he will be ready to return.

–QB Re-al Mitchell could get some snaps over the final weeks of the season. While this is far from the first time this scenario has been broached, Iowa State has more incentive to get him on the field since he can play four games without blowing his redshirt season.

–LB Chandler Pulvermacher is on the two-deep depth chart for the first time this season. The freshman may see some time over the final month of the season so he can get used to the college game without losing his redshirt.
