GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: Texas Tech is notorious for combining high-powered offenses with an inept defense, but this year’s Red Raiders are better than usual when they don’t have the ball. Tech enters the weekend third in the Big 12 in run defense, allowing just 134.3 yards per game. But Iowa State’s David Montgomery gained 189 yards on the ground against West Virginia and is second in the conference in rushing at 104.6 yards per game.

DRAFT SLANT

–RB David Montgomery is being mentioned alongside Troy Davis as perhaps the best Iowa State running back in history. He’s coming of a career-best 189 yards rushing against West Virginia.

ROSTER REPORT:

–DT Ray Lima missed the West Virginia game because of a concussion. With the bye week giving him extra time to heal, the coaching staff is hopeful that he will be able to play this week.

–S Lawrence White expects to be back on the field for the Texas Tech game. He was sidelined against West Virginia with an ankle injury.

–QB Kyle Kempt’s knee is improving, but he’s still likely not going to be able to play this weekend. This leaves Zeb Noland as the backup to starter Brock Purdy.
